Fujifilm 3 awards at the 2013 red dot design awards
FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is very proud to announce that its premium X series compact system cameras, the FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and X-E1, along with its “instax mini 8” instant camera have each won red dot award : Product Design 2013.
Organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen e.V, the “red dot design award” is amongst the world’s most prestigious design awards alongside “iF design award” in Germany and the “Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)” of the USA.
The adjudication criteria is strict: products must have been brought to the market within the last two years, and they are judged on their Degree of innovation, Functionality, Formal quality, Ergonomics, Durability, Symbolic and emotional content, Product periphery, Self-explanatory quality and Ecological compatibility.
In 2013, the red dot award jury was once again looking for the best products and projects of the year — true to their motto “in search of excellence”. Elaborate and innovative designs competed, with proven know-how and high competition amongst the best in diverse industries. This year, 1,865 manufacturers, designers and architects from 54 countries were hoping to receive the coveted red dot quality seal for their products and projects. The largest red dot jury of all time had to test, discuss and evaluate 4,662 items — live and on site. Due to the consistently high quality of the entries, it was not easy for the 37 renowned professionals to make their decisions. Only the best products were bestowed with the coveted awards for aesthetic forms and lasting trends.

The “instax mini 8” instant camera
The award-winning “instax mini 8” is an instant print camera which offers credit-card sized prints in seconds, it’s great fun to use and perfect for sharing with friends. There are 5 colors available: white, black, pink, blue and yellow and they have proved particularly popular with young women.
Instax mini 8 is cool and retro, it’s been gathering a lot of fans in Japan, China and Korea, particularly amongst young women in their twenties and thirties who see it as a very fashionable little camera. After receiving this design award, we would like to start to promote a culture of “instax mini” in Europe, too.
